Bryan's job at Pan de Vida

August 28 - December 15, 2017

During the fall semester, I (Bryan) taught 5 classes.   Unlike Brenda's 3rd class, my students ranged from 5th grade on up.

First, I lead a devotional for the High School students before the start of each school day.  We spent the week going through the book of Proverbs.  By the end of the semester we had studied the first 7 chapters together, verse by verse. The goal was to encourage the kids to seek God’s wisdom and to trust in Him. Also, they were learning both the consequences of foolish and sinful actions and the rewards of wisdom. In addition to studying Proverbs, we would discuss big questions that the students had.

Then, throughout the week I taught 4 different English classes. The classes were for students based on proficiency level and grade level.  In addition to studying the necessary skills for English, my students also learned the 10 Commandments, John 3:16, Philippians 4:13 and the song Amazing Grace. My students also learned the origin of this song. God's grace is truly amazing!

Also, I was the coordinator for all the English classes. Three other English speakers, including my sister Ginger, taught English classes. I was responsible for student placement and the scheduling of classes.

Not only did I have to schedule the English classes, but I also had to organize the schedule for 6 volunteer teachers that came from Canada.  One of the teachers was here for a month.  Sometimes I would translate for the some of the volunteers who didn't' know much Spanish. The volunteer teachers were a great help with their contributions to the teaching of history, science, math, guitar, piano, dance, English, PE, and art. Three of the existing 5 teachers are going back home so we are going to be at a loss. We are praying for more teachers to come to the orphanage.

Some of the English-speaking volunteer teachers and I helped with tutoring the kids in English in the afternoons.

Also, the volunteer teachers and I worked on the organizing of the books in the school library. Throughout the year, the orphanage receives donated books.
