"What do I need in order to be a missionary?"
January 2018
A few days were
dedicated to address a question asked by one of my (Bryan's) students in my high school
Bible class. The question was "What do I need in order to be a
missionary?"
Previously, I had my
students write down questions they would like to have answered. They could ask me anything. We occasionally look at 1 question every Friday. It's a nice break from our study on the
book of Proverbs. Usually, it takes 1 class to answer a question. But
with this question, I allowed for more class time.
The first class I talked
about one of the big requirements of a missionary is a servant's heart. Then
the next 2 classes I showed them 2 videos about missions work. The first
video is titled
AWAYO
-- Fear to Faith. The 2nd video is called Ee-Taow: The Mouk Story. They both can
be viewed on YouTube.
The kids really enjoy watching videos and I figured that it might make more of an impact than me just talking in front of them.
I wish I could say what they thought. The students were attentive to class and they said they liked the videos. Unfortunately, the discussion didn't go any further than that. It's hard to get them to open up. They are very guarded about their thoughts, especially in front of their peers.
I'm praying that the time spent addressing the question will encourage them to be involved in missions work in some way, whether its actually being on the field or supporting the workers.
