corona virus update for July 2020

Mexico is still under restrictions due to the corona
virus.
However, different parts of the country are able to open up in phases.
In the city of Querétaro, schools remain closed. Government
offices are open in a limited capacity. This has resulted in longer wait times
for permits to be processed and the number of people that can be attended to in
a day. This has affected me in my efforts to apply for a new visa.
Stores are required to have all employees and customers
wear face masks. Also, stores are restricted to the number of people that can
be inside at one time. The civil authorities are strict about these restrictions.
For example, Costco was closed for a week due to having too many people inside the
store. As a result of the closure, Costco ended up donating a lot of its perishable
items to Pan de Vida.
Our kids still have music lessons online. They recently
had themselves recorded for a recital that will be uploaded to YouTube. Ariadne and Alex were able to resume swimming
classes, but kids Brianna’s age still are not able attend swimming classes.
With a few exceptions, the Pan de Vida orphanage is still
closed to anyone living outside. The school
at Pan de Vida is on a different schedule. The kids are in school for 3 hours a day for 2
weeks and then have a week break from school before starting a new 2 week
session. Each session has different classes offered. It appears that it will continue
this way until the end of the year.
For the current two week session at Pan de Vida, I don’t
have any classes to teach. Instead, I have been helping Brenda with the care of James
who is now almost 8 months old, homeschooling the rest of our kids and maintaining
the teaching schedule for the Sunday school teachers in the onsite church.
